Yes Siam
Fountain Square is fit to be Thai-ed.
Though FOuntain Square's newest cullinary destination, Siam Square, had been open less than a week before our first visit, the inviting interior was packed when we dropped in for lunch. The sizable menu offers a range of stir-fried entrées, seafood specialties, adn curries—many of them vegetarian—but for those in a hurry, the lunch specials are the way to go. Favorites like Siam ginger chicken and beef with broccoli are served with a bowl of thom yum soup and a spring roll fo rjust $7.99. And when your server asks if you want your dish mild, medium, or hot, man up and go with at least a medium level of spice. The pad Thai, while satisfying, bordered on bland with "mild" seasongin—even the most delicate tongues will be able to stomach the "medium." Cut the spiciness with a glass of Thai iced tea—strongly brewed black tea chilled and topped with a splash of cream. Friendly but frenzied, the aiming-to-please servers (including owners Sasathorn and Ed Rudisell) will have to step up their game. After waiting years for a Thai restaurant, the downtown lunch crowd shows no signs of going elsewhere.By Beth A. Clayton
